The 2008 summer reading children’s bibliography is online on the CYA:Home page. It’s available in PDF and Word formats.
The National Endowment for the Arts published a report on teen reading and reading skills. YALSA has written a rebuttal defining what reading is when it comes to teens. And ALA has their official response as well.

Heads up! McDonald’s toy prize for Happy Meals is a wind-up bee man. The toy is a tie-in with the Bee Movie that’s in theater’s now. By summer the toy could make a nice small prize.
LPI/NASA is offering FREE Web cast trainings for children’s program providers about the
Explore! Health in Space Module

The Web casts are designed to be fun and informative,
and to ensure that participants can bring the activities and science
directly into their children’s (ages 8 to 13) programs.
Each Web cast is in two 1 and ½ hour parts, separated by a week.
Each Web cast includes a 30 minute presentation and question/answer session with a NASA medical researcher, demonstration of the hands-on activities that can be used in children’s programs, and sharing among attendees of resources and ways they may use the program.
Participants are invited to get the supplies before the Web cast so that they can make UV Man/Woman, crunch Styrofoam bones, and see what happens to Sponge-Spool-Spine when he goes into space!
