Free Lunar Planetary Institute/NASA Web Cast Training

November 5th, 2007 by adrienne

LPI/NASA is offering FREE Web cast trainings for children’s program providers about the

Explore! Health in Space Module

http://www.lpi.usra.edu/education/explore/space_health/.

The Web casts are designed to be fun and informative,

and to ensure that participants can bring the activities and science

directly into their children’s (ages 8 to 13) programs.

Each Web cast is in two 1 and ½ hour parts, separated by a week.

  • The first Web cast explores the impact of space radiation on astronauts – and children!
  • The second explores how living and working in space impacts the human body – and how astronauts and children share many things when it comes to staying healthy!

Each Web cast includes a 30 minute presentation and question/answer session with a NASA medical researcher, demonstration of the hands-on activities that can be used in children’s programs, and sharing among attendees of resources and ways they may use the program.
Participants are invited to get the supplies before the Web cast so that they can make UV Man/Woman, crunch Styrofoam bones, and see what happens to Sponge-Spool-Spine when he goes into space!

Joining the Web cast is easy – really! – participants simply need to:

  1. Reserve a “seat” with Becky Nelson (bnelson AT lpi.usra.edu / 281-486-2166); a maximum of 40 participants can join each Web cast.
  2. Have access to a telephone (a toll-free number will be provided) for the Web cast
  3. Have access to the Internet for the Web cast
  4. Bring chocolate

More information will be provided to participants when they sign up to ensure that they get the most out of the experience.
