Bee Man

Heads up! McDonald’s toy prize for Happy Meals is a wind-up bee man. The toy is a tie-in with the Bee Movie that’s in theater’s now. By summer the toy could make a nice small prize.

Congratulations on your 2007 Summer Reading Program! You all are to be commended on a job very well done.

As this is my first summer reading program as the Youth Services Consultant, I admire all of your hard work. I am amazed at just how much you accomplished for the benefit of so many. This is truly a summer to remember for a long time to come.

The State of Summer Reading

How is your summer reading going?

I’ve been busy gathering materials for school libraries that want to have a summer reading program and for public libraries who are running out of supplies. If you are running low, let me know and I’ll send you more.

When you get a chance you may want to look at Oklahoma Child Care: The Quarterly Journal for Caregivers Everywhere, vol. 2, 2007, page 34, ISSN: 1049-9466. There is information, activities and a short bibliography on bugs (2008 SRP theme). Contact:

Oklahoma Department of Human Services

ODL is a depository of state publications so there are copies here for interlibrary loan.

This is an Oklahoma edition of the Texas Child Care which is published by the Texas Workforce Commission. (I’m not sure why, but the copy I have in front of me is cited as 2007, the online copy is Summer 2006.) You can request copies of articles by contacting them.

Thanks to Kelly at Tulsa City-County Library System for the heads up!

I leave for ALA in Washington, D.C. next week. This is my first time to ALA and my first trip to D.C. I’ll return the last week in June, and then it’s Library Day at the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History on June 30th.

Summer Reading Evaluation and Materials Orders Forms

The links to the evaluation and materials order forms have changed. SurveyMonkey updated their web site. I have made the corrections on the CYA web site pdf’s of the manuals. I have also made the respective replacement pages a word document.

Centennial T-Shirts

The shirts have been ordered. There is a three-day turnaround, but I am hoping they will be ready Wednesday, May 23. I will be mailing them first class after I pick them up. The company is here in OKC. If you want to pick your order up here at ODL instead of waiting for the mail, let me know.

Thank you for your patience.

Teen Manual Online

The teen manual is online now. I did the same with it as with the children’s by having it in it’s entirety, and splitting it in half. Hopefully, this helps with downloads.

Children’s Manual

I’ve uploaded on the CYA: Children’s and Young Adult web site the 2007 Children’s Manual. It includes news release information, a list of past and future summer reading program slogans and the link to the end-of-summer evaluation and materials request form in SurveyMonkey.

I have put the manual in pdf format. There is one that is the entire manual, which is 117 pages. I also broke the manual in half, so there is just the news release information (47 pages) and bibliographies and programs (68 pages). Hopefully, that will make it easier to download and print.

The teen manual will be up very soon.
