W00T! Share Fair!

Music and the Arts Share Fair was a success! We had four performers: Dusty Gilpin – graffiti artist, Monty Harper – musician, Karla Beatty – OK Conservation, Steve Crawford – magician and Derick Brock – Mad Science.

If you were unable to attend here are a few items that were discussed:

  • Review of 2009 summer reading program
  • Oklahoma College Savings Plan – we voted to split the $5,000 prize to include teen
  • Discussed having patrons sign up vs. walk-in for programs – it really depends on the program, if needed, supplies and the space you have. Sign up is recommended if space is small and if supplies are required.
  • Start of 2010 summer reading program – Water
  • Brainstormed for 2011 World Culture/World Travel programs and activities and 2012 Night slogans

Thank you to all who were able to attend. I enjoyed the program, too! See you in the spring.

CSLP Annual Meeting, Share Fair, Spring Workshops

The Collaborative Summer Library Program web site has songs and PSA’s for download. I have linked to them from the CYA:Wiki. I have also added more links on the CYA:Wiki, under “Summer Reading:2008 Resources”. As a sidenote, I have also added a link to What They Play (http://www.whattheyplay.com) as an additional resource on the gaming workshop page.

The CSLP annual meeting went very well. The slogans for the water theme for 2010 and the theme for 2011 were decided by majority vote. Please log into the CYA:Forums to see what the slogans and themes are. We visited the Clinton Library and a very good Mid-Southern dinner there. It was quite probably the best apple cobbler I had every had, that wasn’t my mother’s. We will discuss the Collaborative at Share Fair this fall.

Speaking of Share Fair, tentative dates are August 14th (for children) and August 15th (for YA).

Speaking of meetings, anyone interested in hosting the Music & the Arts Spring Workshops please e-mail and let me know. The schedule will be similar to this past workshops with them starting late January and early February (weather permitting).

Share Fair Packets

The packets from both Share Fair’s are now online and available for download.
I did not include the Call for Ideas from the Collaborative. Please drop me a note and I’ll e-mail the sheet to you. I will need to gather all ideas and suggestion for 2009 and 2010 SRP’s before the December 1st deadline.

2009 & 2010 SRP

2010 General Theme Suggestions

These general themes were discussed and in the final voting list at the 2006 CSLP Annual Meeting: Water, Health, Food.

Besides these previously mentioned general themes, please submit up to five broad-based themes for the CSLP 2010 summer reading program. Keep in mind we want the public to instantly associate the program with the LIBRARY and READING.

Keep in mind at this time we are only looking for general themes and not specific slogans for 2010.

The Collaborative sent a list of proposed 2009 slogans and 2010 themes. These are what I will be voting on in two weeks. Send me your feedback, the ones you like and why, otherwise I will just vote on what I like. You snooze, you lose!
